A God-centred Vision
By Ryan Dawson
In a world filled with distractions, desires, and competing priorities, it is easy to lose sight of what truly matters. This is why we need a God-centred vision, because vision operates like a “north star” to guide us towards God’s purpose and plan for our personal lives and for our Church. Having a God-centred vision for Sequoia is not just about setting goals and priorities; it is about seeking God’s will, trusting His guidance, and living a Spirit-filled life that glorifies Him.
On Sunday March 2 at 6:30pm, we are holding our Annual Vision Night at Ottawa Christian School where we will gather to celebrate God’s goodness to us as a people and look forward to where He is leading us in 2025. We encourage you to prioritize this time in your schedule as we know that you will be encouraged and inspired. As we pursue God’s vision for our lives and our Church, we will grow in the following ways…
A God-centred Vision compels us to Seek First the Kingdom
Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:33 (NLT), "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." When our vision is centred on God, we shift our focus from temporary concerns to eternal priorities. Instead of chasing success by the world's standards, we pursue a life that honours Christ.
A God-centred Vision helps us Trust God’s Plan
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." A God-centred vision requires faith, and it is impossible to please God without faith. This means we surrender our desires and we trust that God’s ways are higher than ours. Even when the path seems uncertain, God promises to lead us.
A God-centred Vision energizes us to Run with Purpose
The Apostle Paul encourages us in 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 (NLT), "Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize." Living with a God-centred vision gives us clarity and purpose. We are not aimless wanderers; we are runners in a race with an eternal prize awaiting us.
A God-centred Vision keeps us Focused on Jesus
Hebrews 12:2 (NLT) urges us, "We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne." When our eyes are fixed on Jesus, we are not easily swayed by life's circumstances and challenges. Christ becomes our ultimate example and our source of strength as we rely on the Holy Spirit who lives within us.
A God-centred Vision enables us to Live for God’s Glory
Colossians 3:17 (NLT) reminds us, "And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father." A God-centred vision transforms our daily lives, where we live, work, play, and go. As a result, our work, relationships, actions, and activities become opportunities to reflect God love and bring Him glory.
Having a God-centred vision is about more than just setting goals; it is about surrendering to God’s will and allowing Him to guide our steps. As we seek His kingdom, trust in His plan, and run our race with purpose, we will find fulfillment, joy, and the ultimate prize—eternal life with Him. May we keep our eyes on Jesus and walk boldly in the vision He has set before us. I look forward to being with you on Sunday night.
