Finding Our True North

By Ryan Dawson

What a joy-filled week it’s been at the back field of Ottawa Christian School.  The grounds have been bursting with laughter, excitement, and energy as 100 children and over 40 incredible teachers and helpers joined together for Sequoia’s True North Day Camp.

This week has been a beautiful expression of God’s goodness and faithfulness in our church community.  This year’s camp theme, “True North,” reminds us that even when the world around us feels wild and confusing, Jesus is our constant—our True North.  Every day, campers explored how easy it can be to lose track of what’s true, and how vital it is to look to Jesus as the One who never changes.  As it says in Hebrews 13:8 (NLT): “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Through dynamic games, creative crafts, science experiments, interactive stories, and engaging music, our campers, ranging from JK to Grade 6, were gently and joyfully pointed to the unshakable truth of who Jesus is—a faithful friend, a loving guide, and the One who leads us safely through life’s adventures.

Our team of dedicated volunteers, teachers, youth, and parents, shone brightly as they poured love and care into each child, helping them feel seen, known, and cherished.  Their passion and dedication were truly inspiring. Thank you to every single one of you who served with such joy—you are such a gift to our church, community and the world!

Let's continue to pray that the seeds of truth planted this week will grow in each camper’s heart.  As Psalm 25:5 (NLT) beautifully declares: “Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”  May these precious children know this incredible truth.

As we pray for these children, we are trusting that their hearts will remain soft toward Jesus and that, even when life feels wild, they will remember who they are and who He is.  Jesus is our True North—and we can always trust Him.

With much love and gratitude, Ryan
