"Let the Children Come to Me"
By Ryan Dawson
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 (NIV)
This week, the field and gym at Ottawa Christian School are alive with the sound of laughter, cheering, and bouncing balls! In partnership with Athletes in Action, Sequoia is thrilled to host our Sport Fundamentals Camp — a fun-filled week of multi-sport activities for kids ages 6–12.
We have 58 energetic campers learning new skills, enjoying the outdoors, and discovering the joy of being part of a team. No matter their skill level, every child has a place here. From relay races to dodge ball, from soccer to capture the flag, it’s all about fun, friendship, and growing together.
But there’s something even bigger happening than the games and fun. We believe that Jesus deeply loves every child— and this week is about helping them know that love personally. Every story, conversation, and huddle is a chance for campers to hear about the God who made them, knows them, and wants them to walk with Him.
It’s incredible to see the body of Christ in action: 20+ youth helpers, several dedicated adults, and 4 gifted coaches are giving their week to serve these children. They’re leading games, cheering kids on, tying shoelaces, handing out snacks, sharing their faith, and showing the love of Christ in tangible ways. Thank you to each person who has invested in these children and youth – you are making a difference!
We are trusting God to use this camp for His eternal purposes — planting seeds of faith, encouraging young hearts, and pointing each camper to the One who gives true life.
Please join us in praying that every child leaves this week not only with great memories and new skills, but with the assurance that Jesus loves them and invites them to follow Him.
