Step Away to be Ignited

by Heather Pennington

In the middle of busy schedules, responsibilities, and the constant noise of everyday life, a woman’s retreat becomes more than just a getaway—it becomes a gift. A space to breathe. A space to listen. A space to remember what matters most.

There is a deep beauty in gathering as women—laughing over coffee, sharing stories, praying through tears, and realizing that we are more alike than we thought. Walls come down. Masks fall away. And in their place, something powerful begins to grow: real connection.

But even more than connection with one another, this retreat is about choosing connection with God. When we draw near to him, everything changes. Peace falls on our anxious hearts, joy springs up, faith deepens, love seeps over every aspect of our lives, patience and kindness pour out, and taking control of the impossible in our lives becomes possible. We understand that it is “just Jesus” that we need in our lives, and when we “choose to daily surrender to his leading”, we are led to a life of joy far beyond what we could have ever done on our own.

The daily choice to know him deeply, knowing the names of Jesus personally through experience, and putting on his armour each day —truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, His Word—we begin to stand differently. Stronger. Steadier. More secure.

So many of us quietly carry the weight of feeling like we’re not enough. Not spiritual enough. Not strong enough. Not “put together” enough. But that voice: It doesn’t come from God.

God calls us not to shrink back, but to step forward in faith—not because we are perfect, but because He is present. We are not impostors; we are daughters of the King.

There is a calling over every one of us; not to hide, not to shrink, but to rise.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”
Isaiah 60:1

This is more than a verse. It’s an invitation. To step out of fear and into identity and walk in the light of who God says you are.

Because sometimes, all it takes is stepping away for a moment… to be set on fire again.

With joy,

Heather
