A Promise You Need Today!
By Ryan Dawson
Life isn’t easy. You know that don’t you? Sometimes things don’t go the way we expect they should. At times we face daunting challenges, experience sadness and loss, and we fear the “what ifs” or the “should haves”. At times we lose sight of what really matters, and we are held hostage by our circumstances. Although we want to walk by faith, too often we stumble along trying to see our way through things, hoping that God will show up in some way that makes sense to us. I have moments like that as well, we all do. The question is not whether we will have moments like this – it’s what we do in moments like these.
I was so blessed by a promise I found in God’s Word the other day, and I have been meditating on its truth. I need this promise and so do you…
Isaiah 26:3 Amplified Bible “You will keep in perfect and constant peace the one whose mind is steadfast [that is, committed and focused on You—in both inclination and character], because he trusts and takes refuge in You [with hope and confident expectation].
In this promise we are told that God will keep us in perfect and constant peace. Peace can be described as a state where nothing is missing and nothing is broken. But all of us experience things that are broken, and the loss of things missed. But when Jesus as the Prince of Peace, steps into our circumstances He brings His very presence, allowing us to experience His perfect peace, even in the midst of the brokenness we experience. There is a constancy to the peace of Jesus, because Christ is the fulness and embodiment of peace itself. By setting our minds on the reality of Christ’s presence with us, we can trust that He will restore all things for His glory and for our good – in His perfect timing.
As we commit ourselves to Christ and focus our thoughts on His character and His promises, we are then filled and fueled by hope. Our hope is not a wishful thinking – but a certainty and a confidence that we have placed our lives in the hands of One who is both trustworthy and mighty to save. Jesus then becomes our refuge – a safe harbour in the midst of the storms of life. We are then anchored to Christ, and He holds us fast, bringing real peace into our lives. Jesus promised us this same peace in John 14:27: "I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give."
This promise is for you today so take a breath, and internalize the truth of the peace that is already yours in Christ Jesus.
Blessings, Ryan
