Christian prayer is essential as it fosters a personal relationship with God, offering greater intimacy, guidance, peace, and strength in daily life. Through prayer, believers communicate with the Lord, seek His will, and align their hearts with His purposes.
God responds to the prayers of His people and He loves it when we approach Him in faith and dependency. As Scripture says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6, NIV).
Echoing this truth, Martin Luther once said, “To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.” And prayer is absolutely vital for us as a church family because it is our declaration of dependency on God, as we know that apart from Christ we can do nothing of spiritual value.
At Sequoia we are seeking to become a “House of prayer for all nations” (Isaiah 56:7) because we know that prayer is our greater work.
“I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God. It changes me."
- C.S. Lewis
Ways We Prioritize Prayer
Tuesday Prayer Gathering
Join us on Zoom every Tuesday at 7:30pm for an hour of prayer. We begin with a short Bible reflection, offer praise and thanks, and share prayer requests for our church, community, and one another. Feel free to join in, listen, or simply observe, camera on or off. All are welcome. Send an email to our Prayer team to join in!
Pre-Service Prayer
Join us on Sunday mornings in the Library at OCS at 9:30am as we invite God to work in and through our Sunday worship service. This is a wonderful time to gather together as a team as we dedicate our service and our lives to the Lord Jesus Christ.
All Church Prayer Summit
Every two months, we gather as a church family for our Sequoia Prayer Summit—a powerful time of worship, reflection, and group prayer. Whether you're new to prayer or experienced, all are welcome. Check our events calendar for the next one.
Impact Communities
Sharing life with others in the church family is an important for our spiritual formation. As a family of servants on mission we can grow together, support one another, and pray for one another, as we seek to live out our faith where we live, work, play, and go. Join an Impact Community to grow with others who are journeying with Jesus.
