Happy Canada Day!

By Ryan Dawson

We are so blessed to live in this great country!  On Saturday July 1st we have the amazing opportunity to celebrate this reality and connect with our community as we gather for Canada Day.  There will be thousands of people enjoying the festivities at Clarke Fields just adjacent to OCS, so we are encouraging you to come to the park for the day or for part of the day.  This is a great opportunity for our Impact Communities and congregants to serve together to bless our neighbours, so we are encouraging our Sequoia family to engage in some way.

At Sequoia we are seeking to be a Family of Servants on Mission and this is one tangible way we can live this out in our own backyard.  There are opportunities for everyone to be engaged, including handing out fresh fruit at the Fun Cruiser, helping with our new Parents and Kids rest station, hosting in our sitting area, helping keep the park clean, set-up and tear down.  You can sign up for different shifts scheduled throughout the day on the app or through the website.

So, whether you can come for a couple hours or for a longer time, it’s going to be joy to serve together.  We will take the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with people and invite them to our summer services and our Movies in the Park.  We are trusting God for many fruitful spiritual conversations as we meet people where they are, and take the initiative to love and serve them.

Several years ago, this very thing happened as we connected with Steve and Jennifer and their family at Canada Day.  Soon after they began to attend our Sequoia worship services and got more involved in our church family.  It has been a gift to watch God at work in the life of this family, and this year Steve will once again be serving at Canada Day.  We do this because we know there are more people like Steve and Jennifer looking for real life and real impact.

So please join us for a great Canada Day Celebration and enjoy the fellowship, the music, the games, the fireworks, new and old friendships, and the opportunity to share God’s love with others.  We also encourage you to look for opportunities in your own neighbourhood to connect with friends and neighbours over the holiday weekend.  Remember that God is always working, and we have the privilege of joining Him in His work to bring renewal to all things through Christ.

"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”  Matthew 5:16

Happy Canada Day!

Blessings, Ryan
