Ask, Seek, Knock

By Ryan Dawson

There is a great promise from Jesus found in Matthew 7:7 "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”  In Matthew’s Gospel up to this point Jesus has been teaching about the Kingdom and in this passage He highlights the heart of our Father in Heaven who desires to give good gifts to His children.  I find this particularly meaningful because I have been asking God to do a greater work in my life, my family, and our Sequoia church family.  I’m trusting God for more than we are currently experiencing.

•I have been asking God to renew us with His Spirit, so we see His power in greater measure.
•I have been asking God for direction as we seek to grow as a church, in breadth and depth, so we are found faithful.
•I have been asking God to help us make multiplying disciples of Jesus.
•I have been asking God to raise up leaders and labourers for the harvest from our congregation.
•I have been asking God to give us wisdom and discernment as we take steps towards a building on our land.
•I have been asking God to help us reach the lost so we see more people cross over from death to life.
•I have been asking God to lead us and guide us, so we see true Gospel community developed in and through our Impact Communities.

I’m asking; I’m seeking; I’m knocking; and I’m standing on the promise that “It WILL be given…we WILL find…. and the door WILL be opened to us.”  But I’m also convinced that we need to stand together believing that God will honour His Word to us.

Will you ask, seek, and knock with me?  As we prepare for the Fall season there is much that lies before us and much to trust God for, but we need to stand together and ask God to do His work in His way.   So we need to pray!  Send me an email and let me know what you are asking God for so I can pray with you and let me know if you are willing to pray for Sequoia in the months ahead.   You can use the 7 bullet points as a way to guide your prayers.

These are exciting days!  I’m excited to be on the journey with you, and thank you for praying!
Blessings, Ryan
