Mission to Mexico
Last week, a group of Sequoia high school students and youth leaders travelled to Tijuana, Mexico on a week-long mission trip.
During our time there, we built homes for the less fortunate and visited an orphanage. We heard from missionaries who have spent much of their life bringing the Gospel message to some of the furthest unreached parts of the world in remote tribes. We spent time daily reading Scripture and listening to God, and learning our role in God’s great plan for the world.
We had an amazing time as a team, as we bonded on the work site, spoke broken Spanish together, ate too many tacos, and slept in hot dorms without showering after long days of work. We almost made it through the whole week without anybody being sick!
There were many things about the week that were uncomfortable, but God used the discomfort and the elimination of distraction to speak to each one of us. It was encouraging to hear how God used this week to change us.
As we saw the needs in the spaces around us, for the families of the homes we were building and as we visited the local orphanage, we also learned about the tremendous needs in the world at large.
The biggest need that we learned about is the need for the message of Jesus to be brought to so many places in the world, places where nobody has heard the name of Jesus. Over 2 billion people today live without ever having heard the saving message of Jesus and who have no access to it.
Our mandate as followers of Jesus is to bring this message to every place in the world, particularly those places that have never heard the message before.
There was much that we left with the families and orphans we visited in Tijuana, but much more that we brought home with us. Whether we go ourselves, or help in sending those who do, we each left more committed to the great cause of bringing the message of Jesus to the ends of the earth.
I pray you, also, partake in this great adventure of bringing Christ to the nations.
For our good and His glory,
Jeremy
