Lest We Forget
By Ryan Dawson
This coming Monday we will take time to remember all those who have given their lives so that we can live a life of freedom, hope, and joy. There is no greater sacrifice than to lay your life down so others can have life and freedom. Jesus reminds us…
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13).
We can thank God for the countless men and women, past, present, and future who made and continue to make incredible sacrifices, to keep us safe and free here in Canada. We enjoy life and freedom in our country, because others have given of themselves for us. We can never forget this gift of grace.
The sacrifice of our veterans also reminds us of the Ultimate sacrifice that Jesus paid for us on the cross. Jesus gave His life to buy us out of slavery and darkness and to bring us into the Kingdom of light. Because of Jesus we now have freedom and hope for all that is to come.
We have so much to be thankful for, so I want to encourage you to take time this week to remember and to give thanks. Here are a ways you can do this...
•Wear your poppy with pride.
•Take part in a Remembrance Day Ceremony.
•As a family write a thank you letter to a soldier serving in Canada or overseas.
•Have a conversation with a vet and thank them for their sacrificial service.
•Visit the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and thank God for your freedom.
•On Nov. 11th watch the Remembrance Day ceremony on TV and observe the 2 minutes of silence.
•Read John 15 in the Bible and pray a prayer of thanksgiving to Jesus.
•Join us this Sunday at our Sequoia worship service as we remember the great sacrifices made for us!
I’m thankful to be on this journey with you,
Blessings, Ryan
