The Power of United Prayer
By Ryan Dawson
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” — Matthew 18:20
This Sunday we host our first Sequoia All Church Prayer Summit. We will be meeting from 7-9pm at Ottawa Christian School on January 19 to seek God together as a church family. Throughout the coming week (Jan. 19-25) there will be various prayer gatherings across the National Capital Region, hosted by various churches and organizations where we will connect as One Church, through the City on Our Knees prayer movement. A city-wide all-church prayer summit is a unique and powerful opportunity for believers to come together, seeking God for revival, unity, and transformation. Here are five biblical reasons why you won’t want to miss our All Church Prayer Summit as take part in City on our Knees:
1. Strength in Unity
"How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity...for there the LORD bestows His blessing.” — Psalm 133:1,3
When the people of God gather in unity, God’s presence moves mightily. God bestows and commands his blessing on unity gatherings, because this “oneness” reflects the triune nature of God. Corporate prayer fosters love and harmony among believers, strengthening the local church body, and it helps us fulfill our mission in the world.
2. Seeking God for Revival
"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." — 2 Chronicles 7:14
A prayer summit is a time to reflect on our relationship with God and to intercede for spiritual awakening in our city, nation, and the world, believing that God will respond to the cries of His people. Each time with gather at our All Church Prayer Summits we take time for personal reflection and prayer but we also take time to pray together for the needs in our lives, church, city, and the world.
3. Encouragement and Renewal
"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength." — Isaiah 40:31
There is something so beautiful about coming together to pray. Praying with fellow believers refreshes our spirits and strengthens our faith. As we worship and intercede together, we leave encouraged and empowered to walk boldly in our faith. This is true for all of us regardless of where we are in our spiritual journey, so everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!
4. Corporate Intercession Changes Things
"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." — James 5:16
God calls us to stand in the gap for our communities. Praying together for our leaders, churches, and neighborhoods brings spiritual breakthroughs that can change the course of history. God promises to move in powerful ways when we pray, so we come in faith believing that God will do His good work.
5. God’s Presence is Magnified
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." — Jeremiah 29:13
When believers gather with a sincere heart, God’s presence is tangible. God is with us as we come together, and this is what makes our prayer summits so sweet. God promises to draw near to those who seek Him, filling our hearts with His love, peace, and wisdom.
Attending a city-wide prayer summit is more than an event—it’s a divine appointment. Will you join us this Sunday at our All Church Prayer Summit? Will you lift your voice with the body of Christ, believing for God to move in extraordinary ways in our church and in our city? Lord, we ask that you unite our hearts as one as we come before You. Give us a passion to pray as your church. Pour out Your Spirit and bring renewal and revival to our lives and our city. For your glory and our good. Amen
I hope to see Sunday night!
